The firm was established in 1954 in Cambiago, near Milan. It was founded by Ernesto Colnago, former racer, who became maestro of cycles manufacturing.
Already in 1957, Colnago has made a special frame for Gaston Nencini, who won the Giro d'Italia on this bike. In 1960, Luigi Arienti on Colnago bike won gold medal at the Olympics in Rome. Since the late 1950s Colnago frames are among the best in the world.
