The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team within the Combined Medical & Surgical Intensive Care Nursing Unit at Battlefords Union Hospital in North Battleford. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive and systematic patient assessments, including physical, psychological, and social aspects, to identify patient needs and develop individualized care plans.
- Formulate, implement, and continuously evaluate patient care plans, adjusting interventions based on patient responses and changes in condition, ensuring optimal outcomes.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, adhering strictly to established protocols, safety standards, and best practices in medication management.
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, laboratory results, and other diagnostic data, promptly recognizing and responding to critical changes in patient status.
- Operate and manage complex medical equipment, including ventilators, IV pumps, and cardiac monitors, ensuring their proper function and patient safety.
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients, including wound care, catheter insertion, suctioning, and other advanced nursing procedures, maintaining strict aseptic technique.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, specialists, therapists, and other nurses, to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
- Educate patients and their families about their condition, treatment plans, and discharge instructions, providing emotional support and facilitating their understanding and participation in care decisions.
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of all patient assessments, interventions, outcomes, and communications in accordance with hospital policies and professional standards.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations, applying advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and other critical care interventions as required.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines set forth by the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association (SRNA).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development to enhance clinical skills and contribute to evidence-based practice.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Current registration and good standing with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association (SRNA) is mandatory.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent recognized nursing degree from an accredited institution.
- Previous experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Medical-Surgical, or other high-acuity setting is highly preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is an asset and may be required within a specific timeframe post-hire.
- Must be eligible for membership with the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN).
- Ability to work full-time regular hours (FTE 1) with a specific schedule: 12 shifts of 11.78 hours and 1 shift of 8 hours per 4-week cycle.
- No relief, float, or field hours are associated with this position.
- No travel is required for this role.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
