About This Role

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at the Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook. This is a vital full-time temporary position, integral to providing comprehensive general medical and psychiatric nursing care within our integrated health facility. We are looking for an RN who is committed to delivering patient-centered care, enhancing the well-being of our community, and contributing to a collaborative interdisciplinary team environment.

This temporary contract runs from an expected start date of January 31, 2026, through to December 15, 2026. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to our General Medical Nursing Department, providing essential care across various shifts, including days, nights, and weekends. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical, psychological, and social aspects, to identify patient needs and develop individualized care plans.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care strategies in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely, adhering to established policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient responses to care, recognizing changes in condition and initiating appropriate interventions promptly.
  • Provide essential patient and family education regarding health conditions, treatment plans, medication management, and self-care strategies.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
  • Maintain accurate, concise, and timely documentation of all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with SHA guidelines and professional standards.
  • Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing to care planning, problem-solving, and discharge planning.
  • Provide skilled psychiatric nursing care, including crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, therapeutic communication, and support for patients experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to infection control protocols and safety regulations.
  • Adhere strictly to the professional standards, ethical guidelines, and policies and procedures of the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association (SRNA).
  • Demonstrate leadership and mentorship to junior staff and students as appropriate, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring patient rights are respected and their voices are heard throughout their care journey.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association (SRNA) is mandatory.
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in a general medical nursing setting; previous experience in psychiatric nursing or mental health services is a highly valued asset.
  • Ability to commit to a full-time temporary position (1.0 FTE) for the specified contract duration from January 31, 2026, to December 15, 2026.
  • Availability and willingness to work a rotating schedule that includes days, nights, and weekends, as per departmental needs.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse patient populations, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in fast-paced clinical environments.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of an interdisciplinary team.
