Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive and systematic nursing assessments, including physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions, to accurately evaluate the health status of individuals, families, and communities.
- Analyze assessment data to identify actual and potential health problems, formulate nursing diagnoses, and develop individualized, evidence-based nursing care plans in collaboration with users, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Implement a wide range of nursing interventions and treatments, including medication administration, wound care, basic life support, emergency response, and specialized procedures, always adhering to established protocols and professional standards.
- Provide direct nursing and medical care aimed at maintaining and restoring health, managing chronic conditions, preventing disease progression, and promoting optimal well-being. This includes acute care, primary care, palliative care, and rehabilitation support.
- Plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate health education programs and teaching activities for users, their families, and community groups. Topics may include disease prevention, health promotion, medication management, self-care strategies, and lifestyle modifications, tailored to cultural contexts and literacy levels.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care plans and interventions, adjusting as necessary based on user response, changing health conditions, and clinical outcomes.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and confidential documentation of all assessments, care plans, interventions, and evaluations in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, allied health professionals, community workers, and other team members to ensure coordinated, integrated, and continuous care.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring that users' rights are respected, and their needs and preferences are central to their care journey.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, professional development activities, and team meetings to enhance nursing practice and service delivery.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity in all interactions, adapting care approaches to align with the values, beliefs, and practices of the Cree communities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid and unrestricted registration/licensure as a Registered Nurse with the OIIQ (Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec) or eligibility to obtain.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in Nursing.
- Minimum of one year of relevant clinical nursing experience, preferably in a primary care, community health, or remote setting.
- Proficiency in both English and French (oral and written) is highly desirable, with a strong emphasis on English for patient interaction. Knowledge of Cree is a significant asset.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity, with an understanding of Indigenous health issues and traditions.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of an interdisciplinary team in a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with diverse populations.
- Valid driver's license may be required depending on location and specific duties.
